Byelingual: Forgetting Words

 Assalamualaikum,


It's almost a year since I started working as a Customer Service Associate catering customers from Japan. 


Basically my job is answering calls for about 7.5 hours a day. Mind you that Japanese isn't my native language. Does working in this role improve my Japanese? I'd say, yes, maybe but stillll, there are times when I'm too tired to think straight, I'll start forgetting words.


Sometimes I forget how to say the words in my mother tongue (Malay), English and also Japanese. Pure blank sheet. 


I'd just *loading in confusion for few seconds*


Few seconds of silence in a call feels long, the customer might feel anxious; "Can this person really solve my problem???"


Haish... not good πŸ˜…. Can also lead to escalation which is worse because we are actually VERY shorthanded. End up making the customer wait for escalation call some more. Then they'll be angrier πŸ˜…  



Just 3 languages so confused already. Massive respect to all the polyglots out there! While me being byelingual πŸ˜†

However, as a languages learner, I believe that we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves. It's normal to forget words, to make mistakes!! Telling this to myself because I tend to be very embarrassed when I made language mistakes πŸ˜…
